The Kidde KN-COSM-B is a combination of a smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm. It is equipped with the Nighthawk sensor, the latest electrochemical technology available. It is battery operated and has a talking alarm. The talking alarm announces what the alarm is so that you know what the cause is. The alarm is loud enough to hear when you are sleeping. Along with the voice, there is a horn that sounds also. This is also UL listed. This device is powerful enough to do the job of 2 alarms. It has a safety net, if the batteries are not in the alarm, it cannot be mounted. Another good thing about this unit is that it is affordable.

We live in a 4 level split home. Our gas furnace is on the lower, 3rd level. Two years ago we had several smoke alarms, but only one carbon monoxide detector on the top, bedroom level of our home. One early Saturday morning we awoke to the voice of this alarm broadcasting, “WARNING! CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED!” over and….(read more)

The Kidde KN-COPP-3 is another detector of carbon monoxide, that is UL listed. It is an electrical device that plugs in but also has a battery for back-up. So that means that it will still function during a power outage. It also has a digital display for easy reading. There is a button used to reset or test. There is a warning alarm when the battery needs replacing. This unit gained high reviews by Consumer Reports, a huge consumers’ advocate. This model got high ratings for recognizing high and low levels of carbon monoxide. The 9-volt battery is included. This would be a good choice that is affordable.

The First Alert CO615 is equipped with the most recent and accurate technology. It has an electrochemical sensor for detecting carbon monoxide (CO). It can detect carbon monoxide before you can smell, see or taste it, which can save your life. Carbon monoxide poisoning is much like the flu, but people don’t know that they are suffering until it is too late. Poisoning from carbon monoxide is the leading cause of death from poisoning in America. The CO615 has an LED display that is easy to read giving you a clear reading as to what the levels of CO are in your home at all times. This alarm plugs into the wall, but also comes with a battery back-up. So there’s no need to worry, you are protected even if you have a power outage. Another feature is a button that silences the alarm and also tests it. If the alarm sounds, you can press the button to shut it off. The alarm also has a low battery warning that can be silenced with the button. If carbon monoxide is detected, it sounds a loud horn that is 85 decibels and keeps going off until silenced. Along with the sound, there is also a visual alert when the battery is either removed or needs to be replaced. When you need to replace the battery, it sounds 3 chirps. This alarm is UL listed and has a 5 year warranty. It also comes with a 9-volt battery. The price is relatively cheap considering all the features on this device.
